  1. Daywe: Chapters 2 and 3
In this chapter we read about Jean Louis's first day of school. Before she had started school, she had really wanted to participate. Now that she knows what school is really like, she doesn't like it at all. She gets scolded by her teacher for knowing how to read "the wrong way" and for trying to explain why Walter won't take Miss Caroline's money. The thing that upsets her most is the fact that Miss Caroline told her that her dad couldn't teach and taught her how to read wrong. Jean Louis who reads every night with her father, is worried that she can no longer practice this custom and wants to not go to school. She thinks that if the Ewells can skip school so can she. Her father explains to her that it's different because she is common folk and needs to obey the law. He makes a deal with her that they would continue reading every night if she went to school.

  3. Carly (chapter 8)

This chapter was about their tough Winter. Scout and Jem see snow for the first time and the temperature reaches a record low. Scout and Jem build a snow man, which looks like Mr. Avery, but Atticus says to disguise it. They make it look like Mrs. Maudie. On the first snow night, though, Mrs. Maudie's house catches fire. Atticus tells Jem and Scout to go to the front of the Radley house to see which way the wind is blowing. While Jem and Scout are focused on the fire, Boo sneaks out to Scout's freezing body and gives her a blanket. The next morning, Jem and scout talk to Mrs. Maudie about the events of the previous night, and she was not upset about the fire. She thought it would give her more space to plant her azaleas.

    Chapter 13 and 14

Chapter 13 starts with Aunt Alexandra beginning her stay with Atticus and the kids. Aunt Alexandra explains the trip as her coming to teach Jem and Scout to behave like the fine Finch's they are. When Atticus gets home, though, he says that Alexandra is doing him a favor by watching them during the days he will be gone working on the trial. Scout describes the various ways Alexandra has been welcomed and is now fitting in to the community. We hear Aunt Alexandra mention streaks continued within a family name, kind of like the traditions we have heard about in the past chapters. Scout then talks about Maycombs history with Sinkfield and how it's affected the growth of the town and also about the caste system in Maycomb. Scout recalls meeting her cousin Lily Brooke and this sets off Alexandra wanting to teach the kids about the Finch family. When Atticus begins to talk to Jem and Scout about their behaviors, Scout thinks he is beginning to side with Alexandra and begins to cry, but she knows he is with the kids when he says again, "Its not time to worry."

Chapter 14 begins with Scout talking about the insults Jem and her have heard from fellow townspeople. One of the insults reminds Scout to ask Atticus what rape is. When asked, Atticus answers but then is curious about how Calpurnia is involved in the discussion. Scout then asks to go to Cal's house one afternoon and Alexandra is strongly against it. Scout immediately snaps back but is repromanded by Atticus. Scout leaves in shame and when she comes back hears Alexandra and Atticus arguing over Cal's presence in the kids lives. Jem then pulls Scout aside and tells her she should try not to make Alexandra angry and Scout takes this as him telling her what to do and starts to fight him. Atticus breaks them up as it progresses into a larger fight. They are both sent to bed but before she goes to sleep, Scout thinks there's a snake. Jem fetches a broom and swipes under the bed to find a very dirty Dill hiding there. Jem tells Atticus and he tells Rachel, they decide Dill can spend the night. Dill later wakes up Scout and limbs into bed with her and they talk about his parents and Dill tells Scout that they should get a baby from this man across the river. They talk themselves to sleep and the chapter ends with Scout asking why Boo hasn't run away, Dill says that maybe he douse to have anywhere to run to.

Atticus later talks to Mr.Tate and some other neighbors about the trial, causing Jem to grow worried about his father's safety. The next day, Atticus leaves late that evening, and Jem follows him with Dill and Scout tagging along. They eventually find him at the jail. When a few men from the town attempt to intimidate Atticus into leaving Tom Robinson alone so they can get to him, Scout runs over to Atticus and interrupts them. When she sees Mr.Cunningham, she begins to talk to him about his son and entailment. Eventually, Mr.Cunningham responds to her kindly and leads the men away, saving Atticus a bigger dispute. 6. William, Chapter 17.
First, Sheriff Heck Tate testifies in court. When describing the injuries, he says that they were mostly on Mr. Ewell's daughter's right side, and someone had tried to choke her. When Bob Ewell testifies, Scout tells us about the Ewell's home. Mr. Ewell describes when he came home to hear Mayella screaming, and when he says that he saw her being raped, Judge Taylor has to pound his gavel "for a full five minutes" to get everyone to calm down. After that, he says he ran Tom Robinson off, and most of what he says is the same as Heck Tate, until Atticus asks him if he can write. He says that he can, and Atticus pulls out a piece of paper and asks him to write his name. He signs it with his left hand, which is noted by almost everyone excluding him.
