Whole Book Quotes

What do you think are the two most important quotes in all of the book you've read so far?  Why is each important to the book as a whole?  You may not use a quote that you already posted on the regular quotes page.

The Ending

You may do this one once you've finished the book.  What do you think of the ending?  Was it satisfying or not?  What, if anything, would you change and why?

Harper Lee as Writer

What is something Harper Lee does in this section that is important to do as a writer?  What are some ways you have attempted to do a similar thing?  How does what she is doing connect to something we have discussed in writing seminar?  Remember to use specifics from this section of the book.

Settings

Where does this chapter, or part of this chapter, take place?  How is it described, and what significance does that setting have in the book?  Why do you think this particular scene was set in this place, and why do you think Harper Lee described it the way she did?

Vocabulary

Pick at least three difficult words in this section.  For each one, quote the sentence from the book where it is used; give a definition of the word; write a sentence of your own using the word in a way that demonstrates its meaning; and then explain what the sentence from the book means once you understand the word.

Chapter Name

If this chapter were to have a name, what would you name it?  Make sure to explain why you would give it this name, how it connects to parts of the chapter, etc.

What is a theme that arises in this section?  What do you think Harper Lee is trying to show?  What is her message?  How does she deliver it?

Describe a character (one no one else has done yet) or add something about a character that has been revealed in this section.  How is the character introduced? What seems important about him/her?  What is his/her relationship to Scout?  Why do you think this character is in the story?

What do you think is the most important quote of this section and why?  Make sure to include the page number in parentheses after the quote.

References & Allusions

Choose a reference or an allusion in this section of the book, do a little research, and explain what it's about.

Questions

Post a question (or questions) you have about this section of the book, or you can answer a question that has been posted by someone else.

Chapter Summary

Summarize what happened in the section assigned for today.  You may only do this is someone else has not already completed it.
